U.S. Cattlemen’s Association House Farm Bill Statement

Washington, D.C.—House Passage of Farm Bill Marks Important Step, USCA Looks to Senate for Further Improvements

USCA is encouraged by yesterday’s House passage of the Farm Bill and will now look to engage with the Senate as it takes up this critical piece of legislation. The vote represents an important step toward providing producers with much-needed certainty and stability after repeated short-term extensions. With cattle numbers at a 75-year low, a Farm Bill could be critical to helping build our domestic herd.

As the process moves forward, USCA will work with Senators to further strengthen animal health provisions, improve risk management tools for family cattle operations, and bolster local and regional processing capacity that keeps value in rural communities and improves market access for independent producers.

One item not included in the House-passed bill is mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling (mCOOL) for beef. USCA will continue to advocate for mCOOL as an important priority for U.S. cattle producers as broader policy discussions on trade, labeling, and market transparency move forward.

USCA looks forward to working with Senators on both sides of the aisle to advance this much-delayed legislation and restore a more regular process and cadence for reauthorizing the Farm Bill in support of U.S. cattle producers, rural economies, and a resilient domestic food supply.
